Your title fits this image precisely Marc, his expression is genuinely princely. I find your composition and perspective here very engaging. Well done.

Dramatic image, through the low camera position and strong (but not overly) lighting. Maybe not necessarily in this particular image, but certainly presented along side this one, I would have liked to have seen him in his 'habitat'.

Yep, an emulsion lift with a digital camera - if you look in the folder you'll find the digital original.

Ismail has gone missing somewhere in France. Caught a lorry from Ticino to Lille a week ago, no word since.

All photos are starting to look the same to me. Sure I've seen this little boy before.

Hi Marc, thanks for stopping by my site and appreciate your kind comments. Digital Photographer magazine (Ukraine edition) is looking for fine art images for their monthly and like to feature some Asian artists. Will you be interested in submitting some images? Always love your works. Please advise. alecee@photo.net.

I believe I can understand why your heart is set on this photo. It conveys genuine dignity, and strong emotion. His stern expression this moment and your choice of camera point and perspective is just great. Outstanding work.

Marc, I have checked your images on your private web, they are very original and colourful, just the way I like it. Greetings jana

After leaving for so long an outdated version of this image with a fairly poor compression, I've finally decided to add a recompressed black and white (untoned) version of the master file. Thanks to all of you who commented on this Little Prince.

It seems a lot sharper and more crisp. But I really like the tones of the original. The b & w seems to seperate his blanket from the background better, also. But I still really like the warmer tones better.

Thanks, Maggie. I can understand that someone may prefer thewarm tones. I don't have a clear preference myself. Mostly, the point was to upload a more recent and technically better jpeg. Cheers, and thanks for stopping by.

This is a photo I have never seen in your portfolio before. Even better I get to view the original and the afterthought (second version) perhaps inspired by available technology, be careful with this as sometimes it is our first thoughts that make a photo what it is and as we progress and gain knowledge we need to remember that some liked what we have already achieved and better is not always better (this also allows a timeline in our work). To this point I find the two totally different. I shall speak to the first. The tones have a real grit to them and the range of tones is not huge but contrast plays a real big part in making the photo. There is a quality that I love about B&W and when it is rendered with finesse the viewer is no longer looking at "Reality" as B&W is hardly reality unless you are a cat. In this zone of B&W we see more we see emotion undisguised, we see textures and we see the balance of space and when the photographer can achieve each of these elements the end result speaks for itself. Here I have read the dialogue and thoroughly enjoyed the moment and how it came to be. For me I see confidence. I also see a photographer who has seized the moment and taken the time to bring it to fruition whilst bringing each of the key elements together for the viewer to share (no matter how good you are these moments are few and far between).

To the second version, personally I prefer true B&W and here I see less grain which has thereby increased the range of tones. Whilst technically the second is preferable I do find the imperfections of the first personable. Thought provoking as always. Cheers my friend, Gerhardt

Thanks, Markos. Where I am....? Back in France. I'll have time to travel again in a few years hopefully, meanwhile raising my own two young boys...:-) I went to your website just now, and love your "TCR 20" in the color travel album. Keep it up. Cheers.

  • Without the post processing, it would be just another "throw away" picture
  • Remove the digital effects, and what would you have?
  • could possibly catch by randomly shooting

the extra low angle shot is very refreshing. usually photographers like to take it much higher. the title compliments the shot well; it says it all.

Photographiquement, Virgil Mlesnita
