this creature appears as if she sprang right out of an Hieronymus Bosch canvas – and strange yet a background with lackadaisical guards taking in the scene with an attitude totally incongruous with the intensity of the scene. Fantastic strangeness going on here Ton – I can’t unravel this story but I rather like it like that.

quite a shot, the clash of different emotions and also different ages, an impressive power of calmness in the background in the face of what looks like madness in the foreground. Interesting geometry and impeccable post-processing add to the pleasure of watching. Best regards.

Like Carlos, the contrast between her wild look and hands and the staid stance of the guards is striking.

This picture stirs up all sorts of conjectures, of people on the verge of madness and the self-assured primacy of the forces of order. It catches something of the contradictions and fissures that seem to be tearing apart modern societies.

I like the expression here, in part contributed by the very intense woman and in part contributed by the way the shadows highlight the drama of her eyes and the motion you've captured in her waving hands. I get a disjointed sense from the composition, the way her body bisects the staging behind her and the slight downward perspective from which you've shot this as well as the small bit of post you included on the right. It's a very in-the-moment shot, one where you are, though seemingly close, an unobtrusive observer.

Carlos thanks for that comparison, I quite like it and no, I'm not going to spoil it for you.

Wieslaw that's exactly what I felt because while it was all friendly enough it felt quite like a clash in more way than one.

Jeff yes, it was that, more than anything else that attracted me to it or better yet I was hoping to get a shot like this. Sometimes you're just lucky.

Meir although that seems to be a problem in some European countries, or so some people try to tell me, that was not what this was about.

Rueda gracias

Jack despite of what I told Meir there is some truth to what you observe. But as you know with any kind of demonstration, especially with these cultural backgrounds, emotions sometimes get the better of people. This however was a very kind lady who merely got caught up in her own chanting.

Fred thanks. The partial movement/slow shutter technique is something I sometimes use in a photo because if you get it right it fits nicely in with the dynamics of the situation. Disjointed is a interesting and fairly spot-on observation. Truth be told in situations like this you take what you can get.
