I am not sure what the lady has around her neck (looks like a couple of black cords) but it accidently gives the unfortunate effect that she has a tremendous double chin. Retouching could save the day.  The colors seem pale - perhaps a touch of saturation would help.  It is just personal prejudice but I like to see both eyes in a portrait.

The Inverse Square Law for light is your friend for this image. The short side lighting is too strong in this case. BTW, she looks about as enthusiastic as my daughter does when I ask her to sit for me....lol

To get a great expression, just tell your subject that you put a dime in one pocket and a one-hundred dollar bill in the other and that as soon as the picture taking is over she can have the contents of which ever pocket she want to guess.  Of course I have learned some slight of hand so it always happens the subject gets the dime and the other pocket is shown to have the bill.  That often gets a whole new range of expressions.

the reason the lighting is this way was trying something new, light from behind an reflector in front.  i metered for the front so the back light will allways be brighter.  thanks for the comments.
