You are right in not straightening it. The number up to the left is important to keep.

Those huge carcasses make me feel rather,  eh...  "strange", as a semi-vegetarian!

Compositionally, the cascade of diagonals, the presence (and the stance) of the man are very effective.

The high contrast and the richness of the tones also contribute to make this a to-be-remembered one.

Great stuff, Ton. Cartier-Bresson did a photo in a meat plant with men amidst the butchered carcasses of cows. There's something surreal about that picture and also about this one. I think it's the slightly alien quality of the hanging meat.

I walked by a similar scene the other day, but regrettably didn't have my camera with me. I like the way you composed this photo, with the rectangular shape of the meat truck and its content, against that of the doorway and its cluttered mess and graffiti. It seems to counter-balance the 'in your face' aesthetic of both. The man ( did you ask him to pose for you?) seems to really fit his profession, and appears almost small next to those carcasses. (I wonder if you took this in France, ( or Belgium for that matter) since I don't think it looks like Holland ;-) Gr, Marjolein

Bulent yes, I guess it would. I like my meats though but this is a sight that we hardly see anymore in the Netherlands.

Marjolein yes, it feels balanced for me as well much because of the reasons you give and no, I didn't ask him. They were very proud of being photographed. I gave them my card so I could sent them some photos (I've made a whole series of these guys) but haven't heard anything yet. Make no mistake, these are quite heavy and this little guy carried all of them on his back inside. Bedankt
