This photo appeals to me for the mood of anticipation it conveys. I also like its straightforward composition, where the two subjects are apart from each other, yet seem to be connected by something... Kind regards to you, Marjolein

Wieslaw,

You consistently invite the viewers to make connections ... of the associations you frame expertly.

The viewers are -in a sense- forced to interact, participate.

That is what happened to me here ;)

I think Bulent has caught he essence here. I agree with him that your photographs invite the viewer to participate in the creative process by completing the connections in their minds. The best photographs don't explicitly say too much, just indicate a direction, a path, that the observer is free to explore.

an odd photo story and a comp with lovely equilibrium... The picture feels as if I'm looking at a movie still or maybe happen upon a film shoot somewhere in the middle east. Feels incongruous and oddly choreographed as if man made...

Gotta take your time with this one; will be time well spent.

thank you for your comments.

Marjolein, I guess more than anything else it was just the geometry of the place, and I think 'straightforward' is a good word here, that made me take this shot.

Bulent, not having the slightest idea what this photo is all about, I also feel myself invited to speculate on the connections here:-}

Jack, personally I don't mind photos which say a lot providing they do it in an intriguing way but you're right, the most exciting photographs seem those which set our imagination free.

Carlos, I think I take your point here as exactly like you I got the impression that I was a witness of a movie making while taking this shot.

Thanks again, best regards to you all.

I find myself in agreement with a lot of what has been said here but since you added your own thoughts here:

"not having the slightest idea what this photo is all about, I also feel myself invited to speculate on the connections here"

I can't help wondering if this is still a unfinished work?

glad to read your comments.

Samme, thank you for sharing your thoughts and observations.

Ton, thanks for your feedback and for uploading a different crop. I think it makes a significant change to the way I see the scene in comparison to the original version. Without going much into details, cutting off some components which influence the geometry here, makes this shot a little less 'artistic' and shifts nearly the whole viewer's attention to the relationship between the people. The picture is filled with more tension and the intensity of emotions seems somehow stronger but it appears to lose a bit its aesthetic value. Probably everything depends on what we seek for in photographs so would be interesting to hear what you and the other guests think and which crop you are more into.

I can't help wondering if this is still a unfinished work?

If I see what you mean and if you ask me, yes, it can be looked upon as an unfinished work as looking at the photograph one may have the impression, similar to mine, that we are either already after or just before something important to happen. I don't think the moment is any decisive here but rather sort of taken in the middle of an action allowing for quite a number of questions the answer to which we can only speculate on.

the connection is obvious here but it leaves us with a big questionmark which of course is part of its appeal. So what's that girl doing in such a forlorn place and why is she looking at that older Jewish gentleman with his kippa? The fact is that we don't know but are drawn into it because of all those questions. The crop I provided was not about being better (as I made clear) but only enhanced that connection. I do actually believe that a slight crop would be better because it would improve the overall composition I think but then, it's not my photo ;-)

Overall the most important thing however is that I think you've presented us with a interesting photo.

no cut or crop or anything bad here..

this is one of the vague, yet direct photography.. to return, to fly and be real, still.
