I agree with Johannes. From what I can see you have a fascinating subject. Certainly mood lighting is the way to go, but bring up the lighting a little and really let the shadows explore the subjects face.

On my monitor it looks fine - the deepening of the shadows allows for the focus on the cute eyebrows and the side of the face. The control seems ot be there as the head/shoulder mergers gradualy with the deeper shadows. Interesting and a touch unusal today - think this was a style popular in the era of clasical lighting with tungsten lights.
