Ice Close Up, 2003

smhickel

This ice formed on all the trees around the area. When the sun was out, the trees appeared to be from a world where the trees were made of glass crystals. The affect of this ice coating was devastating and put out electricity for 10,000's of homes. During the storm, the woods could be heard weeding out the weak with large cracks and the woosh of falling branches in what was an otherwise earily silent night. This storm knocked power out for days to perhaps a week for some. The trees continued to fall for days afterwards, as the winds came and went and the weight of the ice had its toll even for some of the strongest trees. It is no wonder then that the ice on this small tree took on the shape of shark's teeth.

A beautiful winter composition. The little branch in the upper right corner is key - fills out the composition and balances it. And, of course, the curves and leading lines of the road contrast w/the sharp icicles.

Brrrr. It does look like a sharks jaw, almost. Nice touch with the winding road in the background. This really is cool!

I am putting it up for review because I really want to see what my

second highest rated photo is (tired of seeing this one on top) and I

suspect I will find that out after I toss this one into the hopper. ;-

)

Thanks for being critical.
