steve_lowther 0 Posted November 21, 2010 I don't know about it being too much black, but I think both this and the crab claw image would be improved if you had some detail in the black areas. A way of doing is this using the clone tool in "lighten" mode and introducing very dark detail that allowed your eyes to feast. I can imagine some very dark faux "horse hair" below your "horse mane". This would keep your low key image in key and perhaps even keep the viewer guessing whether this was actually a real horse. In general, the longer you can entice a set of eyes to explore your image in a orderly way, the more successful it is. Instinctively you are feeling you want to avoid large areas of black.
