Looks like a lizard or a snake. Even a turtle, but not a big reptile. Anyway, this is a fantastic image, but I think I have seen close ups of animal eyes a bit too many times. I wonder how you did this without a macro lens...

Was not able to answer some of the questions earlier because my PC was down. This eye belongs to a rather large and very colourful iguana. My lens was fitted with an extension tube to get closer. It was lying very still basking in the sun. Thanks for all the generous comments. Greatly appreciated.
