dan_shoe 0 Posted October 10, 2010 How do you like this one? Glaciers too white for background? Thanks for looking. Link to comment
CoryAmmerman 111 Posted October 10, 2010 Hi Dan. I like the glaciers as they are. They add a bit of interest to that part of the frame. I think I might have cropped this one a little tighter on the bottom and right side to remove a bit of the negative space and lighten the mood a bit, but that's just my opinion. Nice capture as is. stp 6 Posted October 12, 2010 It's hard for me to judge because I wasn't there (and even if I had been, I wouldn't have remembered "exactly" how they looked), but from my armchair here they look a tad whiter than I would expect. The sunset red is also a tad more red than I would expect. While it's true that the black at the bottom provides very little info, and cropping it would provide more concentration on the most important elements, it does provide context. I get the sense that this is a deep valley (and therefore the mountains are tall and the landscape is relatively rugged). If the bottom were removed, I would lose some of that context. Personally, I'd tend to keep it. I posted a photo that had a lot of black space on the left side of the photo, and it truly was dead space that didn't even provide much context, and it needs to be cropped. Link to comment
dan_shoe 0 Posted October 14, 2010 Cory and Stephen,Yes the area is quite rugged. I made the sunset rather red - often photo.net seems to darken and desaturate a bit when photos are uploaded but that did not happen too much on this one. Anyway, I lightened up the mountain on the right a bit... Link to comment
stp 6 Posted October 14, 2010 Dan, I understand your problem about losing saturation when a photo is posted. Sometimes it seems to happen, and other times it doesn't. I once had to "experiment" with several posting of the same photo, all differing in the amount of saturation, just to get one uploaded that I thought was accurate. I really like the red in your attachment a lot better. Link to comment
