Great street capture! Although it's New York (the NYPD Security Camera sign gave it away!) it reminds me of my days in the US Navy while stationed in San Diego, California. A sight one only dreamed of . . .

The identity of the sailor in Eisenstaedt was never determined. The identity of the  nurse was claimed by Edith Shain who died in June 2010 at age 91. Eisenstaedt later gave two (very) different accounts of how his photo was taken.  In both accounts he wrote that if she had been dressed in dark or he in white he would not have taken the picture. (Wikepedia). Interesting to me that the sailor in the background in Eisenstaedt's photo is dressed in "Whites" suggessting he is in NYC for awhile -maybe stationed there. The main character is dressed in "Navy Blues" indicating to me that he is just passing through.
