I like the very starkness of it. The large, dark, hulking mass gives it a somber and even somewhat threatening mood. I find it to be a very powerful photo, not as pretty as some of the others, but nonetheless very compelling.

Terrific image! I agree with someone who write there is too much darkness in the background, that confound a little bit the central point of the picture, but this is a great shot! And wonderful portfolio too!

Given the title choice I think the shadow fits perfectly with the overall scene. The landscape is well captured and presented and the grandeur i quite evident by the off centre valley. Its a brilliant image worthy of a POW. light and textures are well balanced

Personally, I have problems with photos that are so abstracted that you can't tell what it is.

Is it a view of a mountain range or is it a closeup view of a cobblestone or an electron microscope view of something? Further the title doesnt resolve the question either ...."Earth???". I think a photo like this needs to relieve this tension with a cleverly and inconspicuously composed element to make the photo "work" -- to answer this question....maybe a shadow of a person or an ant...SOMETHING. Otherwise, i have no point of reference to appreciate the photo. I might as wall be looking at a Jackson Pollock abstract painting or a rorsach inkblot.

Despite the fact that participants are willing to consume art they do not do at this occasion. There is a sentence known in our parts: I like only songs I have heard before. The new impression has something in common with observators past. This picture does not and is emotionally empty.

Phineas, that only bothers me with nudes. I like the other-worldly aspect of this image. Yes, it is earth, but it looks distinctly other-worldly. I also like the texture of the fields in addition to the dark mass and shadow at right. The colors are wonderful. I think that we are also looking at either cattle or hay bales in the distance. Perhaps that gives some sense of scale.

Frankly, I like it more the more I look at it, and that is usually an indication of quality work in my estimation.

Certainly interesting as well as captivating, but would be even more interesting/captivating if I knew what this is of, and where. 'Course it doesn't matter to some.

Nothing is more compelling to me in a photograph than not knowing what I am looking at. This image does that for me. I especially like that the scale is unclear. You could have been in a plane at 40,000 feet or a few feet away. I love that. Photography is so often so literal but this is not. Texture. composition. Good job.
