This was shot in the mist at mid morning. tried to capture the peaceful

feeling of the mist without losing any of the colours.

Have also tried to really use Photoshop in a meaningful way for the first

time for the last few submissions. (other than my usual curves /

saturation adjustments)

Would really love some feedback both on the technical/Composition

quality of the shot and also on the photoshop techniques.

Thanks

The pale greens and bright fog (as well as the road that crests a hill and disappears) really give this a peaceful feeling.  I can't easily discern any other processing you might have done, and that's a good thing.  I do question the foreground you've chosen and the relatively narrow DOF.  I don't think the twigs and road in the foreground are contributing to the sense of peacefulness you want out of this scene.  All (or most) of that is contained in the leaves, outlines of trees, and the fog.  I'd be inclined to raise the camera (or, alternatively, zoom in) substantially, thereby removing some of the roadway but including more of the tree canopy (unless you employed a zoom).  I think I'd use an aperture and point of focus that would have any foreground in focus as well as the first of the overhanging tree canopy; beyond that, softness of focus could contribute to the sense of quiet.  All IMO, of course.  It really is a nice scene, and it's why I so enjoy photographing in fog.

Another nice "mood" image. I think cropped just above the stick in the road with focus a little deeper into the image would have made it more appealing and dramatic.

I agree with Stephen that the DOF here seems to be a bit off.  Instead of focusing on the extreme foreground, I'd like to see the closest part of the canopy in focus with the background fading into mystery.  The colors and mood are good, and you've really used the lighting and fog to your advantage.

agree with Stephen on all counts. Yes the DOF and the FG twigs are spoilers. but otherwise your color retention in the fog is admirable. i have tried that a number of times without great success.

Another one for getting rid of the foreground clutter and bringing the foliage in the centre into focus. Overall a very relaxing almost ethereal image that would look stunning with a few tweaks.

Thanks so much for your feedback. This is exactly the type of critique I am looking for as a beginner trying to improve.

I had tried to keep the DOF narrow to amplify the feeling of softness in the trees, but after reading your comments and looking at the image with an informed eye I can see that I overdid it and should have moved the focus into the image and cut out the foreground a bit more. I must be honest and say that I didn't really foresee how much the twig would intrude on the overall image, but I do wish that I had cut it out now, because its all i can see. I may post a cropped version.

Thanks again for your gentle feedback. it is much appreciated.

That's why these forums can be so useful.

If you crop the photo to remove the twig, you're going to be cropping the sharpest potion of the photo.  That may leave the trees slightly less sharp than you would like -- but maybe not.
