alexander_sofin 0 Posted March 28, 2001 Could you tell me please what do you think about this image and such technique? Thank you. Link to comment
kevin_kolosky 2 Posted March 28, 2001 I for one do not like it if it is manipulated. It doesn' represent truth. It never happened. Link to comment
marcos_romero 0 Posted March 28, 2001 Of course we're divided into the opposing Digital Manipulation camps. But, I found the image quite striking. While technically not still a "pure photograph", I for one am not disturbed by this, and can appreciate the aesthetic beauty of this "impressionistic" work. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
neil stewart 0 Posted March 28, 2001 I like it! The two "oval" shape distortions are too much for my taste but the colors are great! Cheers, Neil Link to comment
michael_zellhorn 0 Posted March 28, 2001 I think it's brilliant, but then I like the impressionists. How did you do it? Link to comment
roberto_lins 0 Posted March 28, 2001 Although I found it kind of nice, I have to agree with Kevin and say that often the conceptual difference between an image and a photograph seems not be clear for many people... Link to comment
alexander_sofin 0 Posted March 28, 2001 I would like to answer to Kevin Kolosky. The photography for me is a method to express my dreams and my meditations. For this reason I selected the combination of the different slides. This complex technique allows me to show the impressions of my dreams and of my fantasy in the best way. When I put together the different images of real Nature to one image, I see a new fantastic reality reminding my my visions. As I think, photography is an art, and the artist can be free in his methods, if this methods allows him to express his ideas. Also I would like to answer to Michael Zellhorn. My techniqueis very simple. I putting one slide to another slide and making the print of this combination. Some time I use three or four slides for that, but mainly I use only two slides. I making my compositions manually and I don't use the computer for this work. Thank you for your comments. Alexander Sofin Link to comment
coastal 0 Posted March 28, 2001 Totally surreal, very nice colours, great piece of art! Link to comment
bill_green2 0 Posted March 29, 2001 Alexander -- I find your comments interesting. My first reaction to the image was that it looks like something out of a dream. While I generally agree with Kevin's view on manipulating shots, this is so completely different that it stands very strongly on its own. Nice work! Link to comment
ed600 0 Posted March 30, 2001 A little bit of Digital Van Gogh! I see nothing wrong in manipulating truth in order to achieve and art form or statement. Interesting! Link to comment
chris_bednarski 0 Posted March 30, 2001 I also would like to disagree with Kevin. Double exposure, film masking and photo-montage are part of the photography from her birth. I do not see artistic photography to be slave to a nature (for it is scientific photography), but as a tool in the hands of artist (photographer), which helps express his/her vision. Even when you look on available films on the market, with a few exception, almost all have "unrealistic", boosted saturation. People are tired or reality and in their picture would like to see something a little different... Nice work. Link to comment
leslie_koller 0 Posted April 3, 2001 I agree...nice photo (NOT!), but a nice (heavy) retouch....I haven't been here long...is there not a seperate forum for REAL photos and digitally enhanced photos? I for one would much rather look at photos I know have been totally un-retuched by computer manipulation. I have NOTHING against it, it just isn't my cup-of-tea. Link to comment
noshir_patel 0 Posted April 4, 2001 Um, I believe he said that there was no computer involved. Even if there was, art is art. This (and the rest of Alexander's portfolio... check it out) is good art. Some art happens to be composed of modified photos. As for "doesn't really exist" or whatever, art often depicts things that exist only in the artist's mind. Alexander, I read your explanation, but I didn't quite understand. Are you saying you simply sandwich the slides together and print the combination? (So if you were to project the sandwiched slides you would get the same result?) If this is your technique, it is pretty amazing. I have seen sandwiched slides and double exposures, but they generally aren't this good. Link to comment
alexander_sofin 0 Posted April 4, 2001 Noshir, you are true, I simply sandwich the slides together and print the combination without of the help of the computer. It seems to me, that the digital technology cut off the big part of the spiritual energy outgoing from my works. So, the best way to view my works is to view my prints, but not this screen presentations. Thank you and other people, who wrote such good opinons on my image at this page. Link to comment
