I like the images that tell us a story, because in a certain way this is the meaning of the true photography. This is one of this cases.

How and what do I imagine the story? He was concentrated, lost in his thoughts, and suddenly a soft noise get him to the real world, and perceives the presence of someone with the camera.

Then he demonstrates his feelings to the photographer, something like "...you're bothering me, you are an intruder of my intimacy, get off...".

His gaze is the axle of this precious composition, done with simplicity and sense. Very well done Marjoelin.

A wonderful portrait. I'd say "benign ambivalence". I don't sense either a welcoming or dismissive tone in his expression. I see intense interest and engagement, which are keys. I love the way the shapes play with each other as they surround him. He seems to be holding some sort of tube or float and the pattern on it is echoed in the background. The shape of his bald head fits in perfectly! A very complete, and still suggestive, photograph.

Glad to see you uploading new photos again. It is a very interesting look that can be interpreted in different ways.I like the composition in  B/W, as his eyes (side look)are fitting so well to his surrounding assimilation.Well observed as usual.

I hope all is well with you.

Marjolein...  LOL... The hallmark of an excellent candid would be all the different interpretations.  First impression: a look of smug satisfaction and all because of the young lady sitting in his lap.   Alas, and then I realized it was an inanimate object.  Well done... Mike

an amazing composition! i'm so close-in that i can't fathom where exactly he is, i conjecture he's hanging on to this plasticky tube as he looks askance at me and his body in the water beyond all the obstructing things smothering my view of his body... the framing/crop seems totally in harmony with what i can see... the tones are amongst the best i've seen... my compliments!

There is real harmony between the shaved head and the other smooth, curved elements. And the look in his eyes leaves us wondering. Nice tones, as always. Well done!  ~~~~~L

Ton: Thanks for your impression, happy to see you around on PN again :-)

Carlos, Thanks too, and I think that you have a real point on how you see the swimmer's expression coming about... and he was rather reluctant to have me 'intrude' during his relaxing moment in the pool, I felt as well...

Fred, I like you using the term benign ambivalence, and definitely see some of that here as well in his expression... Glad that you noticed the shapes interacting, since I felt that it was a key element, in my framing of the photo.

Bob, Thanks for your appreciation & glad that you like it.

Pnina, Thank you :-)  & You are very observant as well, I think. ( as usual :-) When I was looking at the photo enlarged on my screen, while framing it, I did notice too that the shape of the eyes seemed to fit the rest (especially the L higher corner) of the perceived curved patterns surrounding him (as well as his bald head, which Fred mentioned above).

El, Thanks for your impression and visit here as well.
