johnlund 0 Posted March 26, 2003 This memorial to Minnesotan veterans of the Korean War is just outside the state capitol. It's often pictured with the capitol dome, but I think the imagry of a leafless tree in the soldier cutout is more interpretive. You can rate this photo if you like, but I'm much more interested in honest comments/criticism. As long as you're polite I won't take it personally. What could I do to improve this photo? What would you suggest if I were to re-work this subject. DOF? Framing? Link to comment
wenger 0 Posted March 26, 2003 I like your version better than any of the pictures on the home page you reference. Although I think I would crop it on the right to the edge of the "wall". Link to comment
barclayphoto 0 Posted March 26, 2003 What I like is that it makes me think. I had to look to understand what I was looking at. I really like the imagery of this very much. The only nit I have is the small bright spot on the top right. Link to comment
david_cort_s 0 Posted March 27, 2003 I very much like the tones of the back of the soldier. But they contrast too much, to my view, with the colors of the bottom of the scene, throught the negative form of the missing soldier. You may either make it even more obvious (maybe with late afternoon lighting) or desaturate it : maybe the last one, even if this is not the more original, could be strong. I think this should assume you give it more DOF, to benefit from the details, that should make for the loss of colors... Well, I hope I manage to have me understood... ;) sorry for the linguistic mistakes.. regards, David Link to comment
johnlund 0 Posted April 5, 2003 Thank-you all for your very helpful comments. I will probably re-shoot this scene at a later date. Link to comment
tom_baker2 0 Posted April 7, 2003 I see this photo as black and white. It is definitely very visually interesting, but I think, at least in this light, it would be much more dramatic in b&w. If you like it better in color, wait for the morning or afternoon sun to give it a more dramatic feel, and to also add better color to the frame. Also, I do like your composition of it. minh_thai 0 Posted April 10, 2003 Too bad the statue's right shoulder is cropped out. Link to comment
