Neat shot. Nice choice with the sepia effect. Good use of lines in the composition. Since the detail in the sky is all washed out, I could deal with less sky, perhaps cropping slightly above the top edges of the wood.

Thanks for your feedback! I just purchased a really nice looking neutral density filter. I think I'd like to retake this shot sometime in the future with the ND filter and see what I could do about the sky. To be quite frank, it was a gorgeous day, but there were very few clouds in the sky. Maybe I should post the color version.

I wouldn't say the lack of a sky is detracting - but perhaps adding something in the almost pure white top of the photo would add something, I wouldn't be sure until I saw it! But you have made good use of perspective - with the empty background and the even lighting, it almost looks like a studio shot! the objects look very much like huge mountains in a desert =)

Really good photo. Toning and composition are really good. I would have left a bit more of sky but also this way is truly a good photo.

Was this near Floyd Bennett Field? It looks like some structures (maybe old sea wall)I saw from the boat while fishing. Nice sepia effect.

I agree using an ND filter for the top half of the image might help, but maybe burning in photoshop or waiting for another day would assist in the "bland sky" syndrome. It looks like you took it at a good time, either morning or evening with the better quality light because of the shadow but it looks like the sky didn't cooperate.

However on the flipside I love this. The wooden remains are very monolithic. I'd have called this Monoliths, not Bold-er because they look very stately. Almost as though they are rising out of a desert and are several hundred feet high.

Also in a way, although I would probably change it the sky almost works. The sand is almost the same color and the sky is lighter but also of one color, allowing the subjet- your micro monoliths -to stand out very well.
