richard blount 0 Posted March 24, 2003 This is like no other skyscape I have ever seen, it is in a league of its own, fantastic. Link to comment
koval 0 Posted March 24, 2003 Very eye catching image, there is one thing which bothers me which is a white outline around some trees etc...Still good. Regards pK. Link to comment
alamosa 0 Posted March 24, 2003 Interesting how the horizontal compression effects the light and rays. It must have something to do with the white traces too. Interesting idea. Link to comment
gcgrant 0 Posted March 25, 2003 Great capture - timing is sometimes everything. An amazing display of sky, color and shape. Well done! Link to comment
marianna_safronova 0 Posted March 25, 2003 I am not sure what it is but it is so beautiful! Link to comment
mg 0 Posted March 25, 2003 "50% horizontal compression" ?!? I'm just wondering if what you mean is that this picture was twice that large... Is that it...? The shapes look a bit strange here, is that why...? If so, could we see the "uncompressed" shot ? Amazing image anyway... Just waiting for your answer before rating it - 6s or 7s obviously, no less. Very spectacular picture. Best regards. Link to comment
rick vincent 1 Posted March 25, 2003 I would imagine that the First Sunrise looked something like this. Stunning. Link to comment
dabar 0 Posted March 25, 2003 Basically I simply reduced the width of the original by 50% while leaving the height alone. I also cropped a bit to get a "standard" print size of 5x7 inches. See original image below... Link to comment
mg 0 Posted March 26, 2003 Thanks for your reply, Dave. After seeing the original, I must say you've had a great idea to compress. I wonder how it would look if slightly less compressed though. There is probably a point where it looks at the same time spectacular AND natural, or real. I guess that would be the point of balance I would personally be looking for - if I had had the idea of compressing at all...:-) From today onwards, I suspect I will be trying this method on a few shots - just curious... Thanks for the inspiration. Never heard of this technique before. Regards. Link to comment
dude steve 0 Posted March 26, 2003 Other than the great idea to compress the width, the oversharpening works fantastic here and was another great idea. I've used both techniques before, but never to this extent and never to this good of a result. Link to comment
