gee, I wonder who took the first fork photograph.  There is a show in Portland, OR right now of the work of Andre Kertesz, and it includes his fork photo from 1928, but that can't be the earliest by any means.  It is a genre of it's own.  I especially like this one.  The off-center forks with their interlocking tines would be interesting but not compelling.  What makes it is the skimming light from the side and the resulting great swooopy shadows that balance the photo.  Love it.

Very nice!!! Great composition - the forks way off center, letting us see the long  shimmering shadows, and great exposure - the high contrast light on the forks really shines.
