But for the shadows it would be humdrum - but the repetition deepens the image, I like it.

Maybe is the JPEG artifacts, but the shadow looks artificial to me. I like the composition, but may be a top spot light will bring out the (black) pot a little more?

Nice composition and shadow idea. This resembles a charcoal sketch. The curvy lines in the wood adds nice detail.
