This looks very solid to me!  Superb composition and I really think your conversion is quite excellent.  Really terrific range of tones!  Well done, Amigo!  Cheers!  Chris

Thanks Chris.......I should have asked you in the first place.......your b&w's are top notch. I just did it with a photoshop layer but am considering purchasing third party software. Do you have any suggestions......?

very nicely done. If you are looking for more trick there is a book by John Beardsworth, •Advanced Digital Black and White Photography, Ilex/Lark, late 2007. You will find all info on is site.http://www.beardsworth.co.uk/

Pierre......I've checked the website and that book looks like something I could learn from. Thanks for the comment and I appreciate the tip on the book.

Sorry for the late follow-up!  I don't use any 3rd party B&W software, and do it all in CS3 (soon to be CS5!).  I enjoy sitting there and gently playing with the sliders and seeing what kind of overall effect I can create.  I generally know when I have a photograph that may have some B&W potential, and go from there.  It sure ain't a science with me, much more of an art; but then isn't that what photography is all about?  Just have fun, as I can see that you are.  Again, this top-notch work, Fred!  Cheers!  Chris
