It grabbed me enough to want to make instant comment on it, when I dropped by only to read your bio.

It was obvious to me that this woman is special in the photographer's life.

It is a beautiful photograph.

It is all in the eyes and her communication with the photographer.

The communication from the subject obviates any critique, as such.

Tom,

I'm sure you know what a lucky guy you are.

Anna is a beautiful girl with a lovely smile. You have focused well on her eyes. She has very good eye contact with the camera (viewer). Her skin tone is very good. The soft lighting works well with Anna's fair coloring. The catch lights give her eyes life. You have her posed at a nice angle to the camera. The background is nicely out of focus and Anna is well separated from it.

Her make-up is very nice, but I would like to see some eyeliner under her eyes to help frame them make them stand out even better.

Judicious use of shadows on her face can help create interest and the illusion of depth within your photograph. Make sure her shoulder and chest is not lighter than her face.

You have given Anna a little too much head room. Crop some off the top. Your placement of Anna within the frame is quite good, but you could crop a tad off the right side. You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph. This little rule almost always works well.

Anna's posture could be improved. Have her stand up straight with her shoulders back and her chest out. She appears to be leaning back with her shoulders slumped forward.

Nice shot,

Mark

Thank you for your comments.  This photo was taken on my deck in the backyard.  My wife is leaning a bit as you noticed Mark, i think its because she was 7 months pregnant at that time.
