Guest Guest Posted November 2, 2010 While I don't know whether it was deliberate on your part, the perspective and composition have a very deliberate feel. This highlights the way the men are lined up so there's a strong sense of order and direction and less of a sense of the moment. Since I'm not big on moments but rather on narrative, I would say this accomplishes nicely the telling of a story, distinctly through the eyes and perspective of the photographer. I like the fadeout as we go toward the horizon. Link to comment

I agree with your observation: I am mostly eager to capture 'the moment', but this scene has nothing unique to tell us; this image tells the story of a millenia-old religious ritual and the sense of order undoubtedly stems from that. The boatman in the background is not part of the ritual and is something like a counterpoint. Link to comment
