primus462 0 Posted March 23, 2001 This was shot for my photography class. The assignment was to just do a still life. Is this aesthetically pleasing. Comments appreciated. Link to comment
John G. 0 Posted March 24, 2001 I think that you had the materials on hand, but the shot flops beyond that. Still life are difficult, they demand subject, composition, and lighting. Try to look through the viewfinder as if you're looking at the final print. Try to create a unique or appropriate lighting for the subject. You have too much wasted space, the subject is unclear, and the lighting is . Try associating a smaller group of the items, such as the cotton balls and bee's wax, or the portrait and the watch. I would look forward to seeing another go at it. Link to comment
jen_doughty 0 Posted March 24, 2001 Good try, but there seems to be no defined subject. To me, I look all over the shot wondering what it is I should be looking for. I commend you for trying to set up a still life, but I think this needs a stronger, more defined, center of attention. Link to comment
primus462 0 Posted March 24, 2001 Thanks for the advice. They really didn't do a whole lot for me either. That is why I posted them. Link to comment
elaine_dees 0 Posted September 24, 2001 Assuming the items photographed represent memorabilia belonging to the Hoosier *Lady of the House... the background items all are the same height. Add a Platter/plate for more height behind photograph, a bit to the middle, close in blank space. Pull your china cup over to the lamp, place your viewer to the right to balance your photos...add some of your spools in with your cotton , perhaps place some thread on a few spools. Remove the mans watch and add a pair of wire rim ladies glasses.. even an embroidery hoop with flower hand work with needle and thread..The glass jar is out of context with the items shown.
