Paolo,

She is a beautiful girl. I love the lighting on her face and her expression. She has wonderful skin tone. The color saturation and the contrast is very good.

I would have said that the bright red dress takes the viewer's eyes away from the subject's face, but with a young girl I don't think it matters as much. It would have been good not to have wrinkles in her dress, though.

You want to make sure you focus carefully on her eye. It is not as in as good focus as it should be. She should turn her eyes a little to her right so that there is not so much white showing.

You should have moved the hair ribbon so that it didn't fall in front of her eye.

The light blue triangle near the lower right corner is distracting.

Your subject should have more room in front of her than behind. This allows her to be facing into the picture, not out of it. You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph.

Your name could be properly placed on a mat surrounding the photograph. Any advertising or a logo (or the stuff in the lower left corner) would be better placed on the back of the photograph.

Nice shot,

Mark

Beautiful light, textures, and then this lovely sweet young girl.  Beautiful facial tones, and P/P.  Just lovely.  Bravo! most sincerely, Gail

i have quite a file-full of reactions to this photograph, will talk about some of them:

a lovely child dressed and made-up for a special occasion... lovely complementary (and complimentary!) color palette  for her and the wall (her backdrop), the floor color combines well with this palette... excellent light on her... she has a beautiful profile...

the composition does not work for me: the placement of the child is such that there is much more space behind her rather than ahead of her (going by her line of sight, the direction in which she is looking); she is looking into darkness as shown by the dark band running across the right side of the frame... the tiered structural element at the corner (left of the frame) is quite unprepossessing, even ugly (just my opinion - to my eye its like an ugly hdr)

i'm guessing you had unfortunate operational constraints in composing the photograph and had to make the best of what you had before you...

as she is looking away i'd guess she was not aware of your interest in her...

so i'd say: under the circumstances a lovely production though i wish you could have done something about the feature i've chosen to call 'ugly'

best wishes... rajat

thank you all for your valuable contribution.

I believe that any negative criticism when it is objective, can get me a small step on the infinite staircase of photography.

Rajat and Mark said important things to improve this picture.

Ciao

I really like this photo and do not agree with most criticisms. What they suggest to do is to distill this image to a "perfectly" composed chicle. But for me the "imperfections" of this image make it memorable and distinct from many "perfect" compositions posted on this site. My favorite in your time machine series. I give it big 7/7. regards, VA.
