Hi Roger... not sure if this is the best place for the answer or not.. this is a small flower in the center of one of my bromeliads. Another shot in my portfolio shows about five of these little flowers.

Kraig,  you most certainly have my curiosity up now. have also had a peek at other image. it does nothing to tell me what the process here is . i actually know nothing about 'Bromeliads' so come on my friend and tell me what the story is!!

not sure how to tell you what the story is. I've got a lot of these bromeliads that my mother had... they grow and grow with the hot humidity we have here in Houston. In the center of the plant during the summer these small purple/blue flowers pop up. I don't know what function they serve. The plants send up pups and spread in that manner in my pots... every year or two I separate and put into other pots and try to give them away. I imagine these flowers end up in some form of seed but I've never figured out how or how they are dispersed. Hmmm... I know.. not much information. Afraid I just don't know that much about them. I've added this shot of one of the plants... not good quality shot but I was in a hurry and I think you can see what the mature plant looks like.
