Kodachrome had a high saturation and contrast, especially if slightly underexposed.  This was taken just after sunup and tends to have some of the same characteristics. I was trying for a saturated skin tone. I used flash fill at a low level of brightness to help with the shadows and then tweaked them in processing.

Kodachrome began to vary over the years and most people have different definitions for "Kodachrome look" depending upon when they first used it.  Kodachrome was more or less standardized in 1939 (the year I was born) but I did not use it until I was about 12, when I got serious about photography.  It had some abominable low ASA (ISO) speed.  I still remember rejoicing when they reached 25.
