I took this photo as one of a sequence of six, handheld on medium

format in fading light.

I have only recently had a professional scan made of this, which has

enabled me to get the full range of tone and detail from the

original image. This is my favourite of the six images taken that

day, and this variation has had the orange jacket brightened, and

the sky and part of the sea desaturated in Photoshop 6.

I like the composition and the light. The desaturation feels a little forced -- I'd love to see the original...

As this is my image, I'd just like to add an explanation of the scenario. This was a 'snapshot' taken in unfavourable light, with a heavy camera at slow shutter speed. One reason that it is sharp at all is the wide angle lens I was using let me get away with a little more than a longer lens would.

The people holding the log are actually throwing it INTO the sea (repeatedly). The log was originally much further away from the water, and I just happened to be there to record the scene. This is my favourite of the handful of images from this scene, mainly due to the wave, about to break onto the shore at the right of the picture. The original image was quite dark, and was criticised as such when I published it on Photo.net some time ago. Since then, I have had a pro scan made, and can exploit it's full potential. I will submit the original version at a later date for comparison, for those who are curious.

This wasn't compsed, it just happened in front of me, I suppose it could be called photojournalism?
