ws_lam 0 Posted March 19, 2001 I was just wandering around in Florence and saw this person sitting on the tip of this 'extension' from the bridge doing some sketching. It just caught my eyes... from this angle, it seems like he is the only person there, even though it's actually VERY crowded right about where I was standing. Please comment on the above photo. Thanks. Link to comment
bill_storey 0 Posted March 19, 2001 The contrast is a little high and it looks a bit gritty but otherwise superb well done!!! Link to comment
barry schmetter 0 Posted March 20, 2001 This is a nice shot, and you've handled the extreme view at 17mm very well here. The camera was carefully leveled, and the strong foreground scene with it's triangular motif balances out the interesting view in the background. I also wonder why an NPH shot would look so contrasty and gritty, but maybe it's the scan. I would crop off the top just above the tower at the right, since the somewhat washed out sky is not adding a lot. Alternatively you could burn in the sky by 1-2 stops. If you crop the sky and a small sliver at the bottom, I think you end up with a very strong square composition. I get a good sense of place here and a feeling of tranquility. Link to comment
diane_shea 0 Posted March 20, 2001 I really enjoy this picture's simplistic symetry and direction, and sort of unique grungy perspective. Not what I was thinking when I clicked on a pic of Florence, and for that I'm pleased. Link to comment
dennismk 0 Posted March 20, 2001 The sky could be great, which would make the whole shot a very good one. burn it in or use photoshop or should have used red filter. with the sky washed out the photo has no snap for me. Link to comment
noah_baron 0 Posted March 20, 2001 I see three levels of conciousness here. The man on the point above the water represents individual thought and reflection, the buildings a social web of influence and persuasion, and the sky-- the inaccesibile world of dreams. Link to comment
