I notice that there have been 69 viewings of the monitor test, but no responses. I'll start...

On the upper strip, the lowest white number visible was 2 All the gray characters were visible, with the gray 'A' just barely. The highest black character visible was 'J'

Record your observations and return in one week to see what the survey discovers about monitor variations amongst the viewers.

I can see all but the black I,J,K. I'm really more interested in the image itself. Pity of the black triangle at the right bottom (shadow?). Or is it my monitor that is hiding details there ;-) Got any more pictures with this subject?

That's all the computers I have ready with graphical browsers. You wouldn't happen to be using a Mac, would you?

Ivar and Others - I'm using a MAC (cube) with a flat-screen Apple monitor OS 9.1, gamma=1.8, and target white point (lamda)=6500K. (My PC at work does not show black zones GHIJK - it's dark!).

I can see all numbers and letters I should. When I bought my monitor I tried to run a quick calibration found using google.

ViewSonic Pro 19" PS790

Contrast 100% Brightness 75%

White 2 visible, Gray A visible, Black visible to J, but just barely.

PS-I highly recommend this monitor. Was using it in a dual display setup with a 15" sony trinitron, and it just put it to shame. Wish I still had it to test...

On my ViewSonic A90 monitor, I can't see the white 1. I see only a shadow of the gray A... but that's only because I strained to see it. In the black, I can barely see the lower curve of the J. So, I guess my monitor is pretty close to what it's supposed to be.

What if it wasn't? How would someone adjust it?

white: check

gray: check

black: visible up to 'h'. if i strain hard enough i can pretend to see the 'i', but casually viewing and the absence of self persuasiveness, i can't see it.

i want my 'i' and 'j'!

update: i tweaked my gamma and now have my i and j.

On my ordinary Dell monitor, 1-2 is as it should be. With a little tuning in the Contrast, I corrected the IJK merger and got a barely visible J-K difference. The A in the midtone is just visible. In the image, I see no detail in the shadowed triangle at lower right. I cannot see an edge where, at the center, the horizontal handrail intersects the fat vertical pipe. My settings: Brightness 90%, contrast 85%.
