tobyvidnes 0 Posted March 18, 2001 I liked your idea, but I think this picture is suffering a lot from lack of space around it. I'd like to see more of the surroundings! Right now it could just as well be a painting on the wall... Link to comment
dan_andrews 0 Posted March 18, 2001 This shot works great if you think of it as a "portrait" shot in terms of composing the picture. The statue's face, framed by the foliage, reminds me of a showgirl with her feather boa, and the overall structure of the photo lends itself to such a thought. In fact, this is a pretty good picture, but it remains simply a picture of a statue, and statues make for dull models. They also give a photographer a chance to turn them into very creative pictures. On the other hand, by shooting in black-and-white, you also take away from a more direct interpretation of the subject. I like pictures of relics which capture their age and sense of "ruin-ness." Why not consider color--at least a sepia-tone? Why not emphasize the grainy texture of the stone with a grainy print? Why not use deep shadows or muted colors to create an image which evokes adventure or nostalgia? Link to comment
alix_day 0 Posted March 18, 2001 I have this shot in color. I used a slightly different focal range in composing the color shot so there is more of the foliage set around the statue. Alix Link to comment
