Interesting effect of the layers with strong elementar colors. Of course a good candidate for B&W, too, but the colors really add impact here.

This from about 2 years ago.  I'm using Viveza by NIK software and this image was an interesting test of color separation and local contrast adjustments via control points: a little warmth applied to aspens, some birghtness and conrast on pines and rock outcrop and hue adjusments on sky for color uniformity.

I like the B+W, too. Probably the same filter I would have chosen. Silver Efex is really nice, I got some results I wouldnt have got by PS, probably. With your LAB skills etc in mind, you use Viveza: is it comparably good value ? Or does it save time, and you can get the same results with LAB color ? Here, you could use LAB and masking in PS, I guess

Well, I'm finding that LAB has its place, mainly for fine and subtle curve adjustments and fine HSL in A and B.

I have not tried Viveza in LAB yet -- I wonder if it LAB->RGB->LAB, rather than not changing modes.  

 

I like Viveza's use of control points, which select by color instead of just an area.  So many adjustments can be made to selections  in one operation, which can be a smart object.  My favorites now are: structure to blur or sharpen with tonal contrast;  hue, saturation and brightness (HSL) adjustments.

As an "all-in-one" tool Viveza is really good.

Sliver EFX Pro -- strength adjustment of filters and color response of film types are a much better implementation than PS -- PS seems to add noise when cyan is decreased, I have not seen any noise artifacts in SEFPRO.

I always use extreme adjustments on these kind of tools when using for the first time just to see what the effects are.  With so many adjustments within tools results can be interesting -- using HSL adjusments in Viveza for B+W
