GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted April 6, 2010 This was someone's darling little babe......this was someone's 5 year old heading off to her first day of school....perhaps in a pretty new dress....this was a grandmother's grandaughter....who eagerly gathered around her grandparents to open Christmas presents....a candle glows in the background and a photo is taken of that magical moment......this could now be, because of her age.....the mother of a little babe of her own......and what do we see.............it is the 'raw' image of life. And this is a rather aesthetically more pleasing shot than someone buried in garbage in an old smelly alley, or in a room filled with the reek of body odour, urine and feces......but then again--maybe she did not have the perfect life,,,,,,,perhpas she was one of the unfortunates, raised by abusive parents, even subject to unmentionable horrors......at the hands of her own parents....or a relative....and too scared to tell her parents.....we will never know.... maybe she is the child of 'affulence' and has been spoiled and given all she has ever wanted.....right up to this 'frank and very sad photo'.............the streets of North America have these unfortunates coming out of the cracks in walls, behind the closed doors of brothels, and sitting down to supper and the most expensive of country clubs. Bob, I think this would be a great shot for a poster.....let it be the 'decor' of bus stop shelters, bill boards high in the sky, displayed on the sides of buses.....those of us who do not see 'addiction' right in our faces know 'addictions' exist..but unless it directly affects our immediate families, we often don't add it to our 'worry' list....one less thing for us to be concerned with.....but it is the world that awaits our children and grandchildren. I can't imagine how you felt just after taking the shot.....a great shot of a horrible problem......sincerely, Gail(sorry wasn't allowed to give you the 7 you deserve...groan...) Link to comment

ricardogirao 0 Posted April 6, 2010 it really feelt like a punch in the stomach as it was displayed. i already opened it and closed it for a lot of times in the last hour...i feel like i have to see it but i don't want to see it... what disturbs me the most is not the act itself but the lady's posture and this sense that she's so confident and confortable with what she's doing that she's doing it like she was in her private living room with no one watching at all... i guess such disturbance makes this one a great image. gaphll 0 Posted April 6, 2010 Great shot Bob, it`s power is that it will ask questions of everyone who cares to look, should be in a book or exhibition highlighting the problems of the people. All the best ,Gary. Link to comment
