A very interesting effect. I hope to see that you try many variations. My sense of the outer pics being a framework would be enhanced if the black and white images (the frame) were smaller and the central image larger. I also suggest that the central image not be square, but rectangular and that it look more like a portrait with the top of the head not cut off. The sense of an outer frame might be enhanced if you used just a small number of black and white images, repeating them like a design.

Thanks for getting me thinking in new terms. I might try something like this, myself, due to your inspiration.
