slightly more light on and around his face than the other one makes me prefer this one... they seem to be taken seconds apart, the other one has no crease on the cheek as this one has -- the photograph has tremendous appeal in its simplicity and minimalism, as no flash has been used i'd say (with my admittedly limited experience with such photographs) you have used what light was available to you to good effect in your chosen pov/perspective... i'd say you have very well by the trumpet player

Thank you for your response. Rajat: the photo was taken in a studio. The light is all from strobes, no natural light. It is old Hollywood Style Lighting. the lighting is adjusted to affect the photograph in the manner it did. It is remarkable and very nice. I do like it myself also.

Although I do slip back to the streets when I can I am trying to learn as much as I can about studio and lighting. Working in the studio is much safer for me and quite interesting.
