thadley 15 Posted March 17, 2010 Taken yesterday afternoon and I like it because of a painterly look and the visual contrast between silky water on the left and the turbulent water effects in other parts of the image. I like the rocks and twigs at the bottom because it gives the image continuing visual contrast between stationary and moving elements. This contrast continues with the light and dark colored rocks at the bottom of the image - even the twigs are contrasted since they point in different directions. The light was fairly low (sun had set) so a tripod was essential for this shot.I don't have a remote control as yet so i tripped the shutter with the self-timer. This is a repost and a thanks to all thse who made suggestions on the previous post. I processed a single Raw image with color balance adjusted, some selective dodge and burn applied and overall contrast increased. Processed with capture NX v1.3 that came free with my D300 when I purchased it in Canada. Photoshop was used to reduce the size of the image and add copyright information. Since the camera was on a tripod, I experimented with different shutter speeds and chose this one even some may prefer the water to be the 'all silky' look. I am planning to print this one large but not sure which one it will replace on my wall. Link to comment

cphilpott 0 Posted March 20, 2010 There is a lot going on in the image and it holds my eye for a long time, I like that. The top right corner is the strongest, to me, and the detail there is excellent at this shutter speed. All the best. Link to comment
james_riga 0 Posted March 20, 2010 Beautiful photo depicting the forces of Nature that cannot be held in check. Shows the ruggedness from the rocks, fluidity from the water, sheer power, and forces prevalent on our planet since time immemorial. Well done!! .. 7/7 Link to comment

JimCowan 0 Posted March 21, 2010 This is a very striking image with brilliant colour and contrasting textures. I like the way you have included the rocks at the bottom as they tend to anchor your image providing a stationary base contrasting with the fast moving waters. Very nicely done! This will make a lovely print. Jim Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted March 22, 2010 You know this is where I get confused....I know I commented on this one.....if I commented before you put it up for rating.....would comment disappear???? Because I either did one or the other....because I really liked this one....and I think it was before you had many comments...oh well...I love what you did with this shot...great control of light..and you've at least left enough action in the water so that it looks like water and not 'candy floss'.....water is an element...and for some reason, I like to see that 'action' to at least some degree. I like a lot of the shots where water is smoother...but for me they seem more suited to a 'fairy tale' or that type of image in Dig. Alt. Nice work...beautiful depth of color....for such a small area you have succeeded in making a very dynamic photo. best regards, Gail (grr...I'm so frustrated...I supposse there are those that give 7's in reciprocation...I don't know...but I don't....and it deserves a 7, and I can't give you one! will have to return if I can remember....I am going to have to start keeping a journal again so I don't forget) Link to comment

jtipton 0 Posted March 22, 2010 Hi Tony, Don't know how I missed this splendid piece. I think it's hard to take a well played theme and make it fresh, but that;s exactly what you did here. The composition, color and presentation all work to make this a standout. Warm Regards-Jim Link to comment
