andrew_vonbank 0 Posted February 21, 2003 Beautiful in it's grayscale composition. Evocative with it's touches of early photography. Humorous in it's depth of field. Timeless with it's pseudo-anachronism. Exquisite image. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted February 21, 2003 What a visual treat - love that clean black and white and every shade in between. The reflection is like the slightly distorted and unreal world of conjuring. And good timing on the woman too. One more step and, well... Link to comment
scott bulger 0 Posted February 21, 2003 Excellent job here Seven. Very nice composition, excellent tonal range. The pedestrian in the background is a bit of a nit, but not a huge deal. She was there and you had to take the shot when you did. Nice, nice job. Link to comment
noodleboy 0 Posted February 21, 2003 i love the mood of this picture. jovial one might say. anyway, if it was panned left to crop off the image right by his butt and include more of the ball,i think the composition would be great Link to comment
glabarca 0 Posted February 21, 2003 Very good Seven, it has something of a Buster Keaton film, being very original at the same time. Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted February 21, 2003 You could easily have cloned the pedestrian on the right out of this image, but you haven't and I commend you for that! On the downside, you didn't catch my most photogenic angle... But, I have the airfare in the bag. Great slogan. Link to comment
root 0 Posted February 22, 2003 It took me a moment to understand this because the large reflective surface is a kind of mysterious blob. Once you accept that you don't know exactly what it's purose is, other than to provide you with some interesting reflections, of course, then everything falls into place. The pedestrian walking into the picture adds scale and a 'realism' contrast. The lower left corner helps to understand the shape of the reflective object. Great shot. Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted February 23, 2003 I did, also, need a moment to understand the reflection but that does not detract from the excellent capture and power of the shot. Perhaps a littke less of the left part would give a stronger force to the young man Link to comment
seven 0 Posted February 23, 2003 Thanks for the feedback thus far. Yes the "mirror" is a weird sculpture in Adelaide's Rundle Mall, comprised of two chrome balls balancing on one another - quite steady though it seems to be something of a juggling act, rather fitting. This was taken after he'd finished his stint and we'd had a chat about the meaning of "Europe or bust." I have another where he's enchanting kids; wasn't going to upload it to PN, but after this favourabe response I'll do so - will be nice to get feedback on the comparison. All the best everyone- Pete, have a good flight to Iraq, send your pics from the hotel - just in case..... dave_nitsche 0 Posted February 24, 2003 Personally I think one of your best. Took a second or two to understand the mirrored sphere but once I did I absoltuely was entralled with this image. The girl in the BG is a littl bothersome but then again it might help me realize that this is a twenty first century shot and not one from the early 1900's. Sort of a mixed decade shot. Great job... emeseg 0 Posted February 24, 2003 Love the reflecting ball and the pedestrian in the background. Everything about this image just works. Link to comment
keith_jorgensen 0 Posted February 26, 2003 Really nice image. The gal is a minor distraction, but, overall it works with her or without. The magician reminds me of Stan Laurel and you captured him at the perfect moment. Link to comment
gi_anni 0 Posted March 3, 2003 I cant chose between the 2. Both are top street shots. Is it poosed? Link to comment
seven 0 Posted March 3, 2003 No, Gianni - unposed. Between the act and his finishing up I went over to donate a few dollars and enquire as to the meaning of "Europe or bust." Wished him well & walked off, then turned around and fired a few more. He was well aware of my presence, but certainly not under my direction. Cheers. Link to comment
seven 0 Posted March 6, 2003 Lex, I was about to ask that very question when Mall security moved in with their questions. Seems they took my gear for weapons of MD; I know some who'd agree. (Mind you, there was a murder in South Australia last month so we must be vigilant.) Link to comment
erin_____grasshopper__rice 0 Posted March 18, 2003 I...don't like the woman. The magician, and the reflection..all by itself..would have been perfect imho. But, thats just me. I do love the reflective ball. It's just the perfect background, the roundess just gives such a cool distortion... Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted April 8, 2003 Clearly unposed and a great slice of life. The figure of the woman adds a great deal and balances the main subject. The tones through the range of B&W are excellent Link to comment
