Oversharpened? Scanner made funny patterns out of those thigh lines

I was back to try that critique feature, looking to see if the above

(or below) pic was good enough for the next local photo club

contest. Now I see all those fine, fancy, mastered art pictures

submitted for critique. Gee. [scratch head] Then I wonder if there

is any place on the internet where beginners are still at easy to

discuss their not-so-mastered attempts without fear. Well, that's

it, I suppose I gave the answer myself: the local photo club. See

What an amazing shot. The ziggy lines are a real problem on high contrast sharp lines. This shot looks great next to the old stone buildings. Good advert for Kodak Gold.

The lines that suddenly appeared are because your scanned image is now a 'Digital' image. As with all digital images, it is made with Pixels. If you take the physical method of 'screening' a print for printing (in a newspaper or magazine) the result is obtained by using a 'screen' made up of dots. (Use a magnifying glass on any photo in a book or newspaper - you will see that it is made up from these dots)Now if you were to take 2 of these screens on top of each other, you would get a "moire" (wavey) pattern. In effect this is what you have here. The fine lines of your shot (made up from pixels) and the computer screen - also made up from pixels. ...Result = MOIRE. (Nothing to do with Contrast)

Over sharpened NO! As the previous gent said it's moire. You may want to play with the original using P/S's selective color channels. With that you can adjust the hi's, mids and shadows separately. If may make this very good shot even better...cheers
