dbasinger 0 Posted March 1, 2010 This photo was in the critique forum once before with it's natural background. Background and lighting effects were used to allow the rose to stand alone in it's beauty. Your comments and suggestions do help me learn. Thank you for looking. Enjoy the day. Link to comment

sonneland 0 Posted March 1, 2010 Deanna, how you have presented this rose is really lovely, the two back petals take this from the ordinary to something with a bit of panache. The rose itself seems to be lacking in sharpness, checked to see what camera and lens you use, but does not say. A simple image, well done! Link to comment
dbasinger 0 Posted March 1, 2010 Thank you for taking the time to critique this image. My camera is a Nikon D60 and the lens was Nikon 18-55mm. It was a hand held camera shot and I did have VR turned on. Another PN member commented on a similar situation that turning VR off and using a tripod would help a lot. What do you suggest? Take care, Deanna Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted March 2, 2010 Deanna, working with a tripod all depends on what your trying to do. One could have really helped you here. Whether i use one usually depends in what sort of a mood am in. I think some of my better images happen when am just walking around looking for stories in the garden, no tripod used there. It usually comes out when i have a specific project in mind. guess would use it about half the time, but seems to be in periods of i either use it a lot or not at all. Link to comment
steve57 0 Posted March 2, 2010 Deanne the offset petals completes the thirds comp . I lke it . I do believe that if you would have left a little green at the base of the rose it would look more balanced Dont get me wrong it's good but something at that base would have given it moree realism . it seems to be just suppended .. May be thats what you were looking for .. I'm not the greatest when it comes to critigues . What i mentioned just got my eye right off .. Still its very good congrats D Link to comment
dbasinger 0 Posted March 2, 2010 Thanks for your comments. This time I wanted it to be all about the rose. I am new at changing backgrounds and this simple shape was easier for me. As I become more comfortable working with layers my work will have more intricate detail. Take care, Deanna Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted April 8, 2010 You are in very good hands with the folks who have commented here especially in the flower category. Nothing more to add. H-m-m-m! A crazy idea just came to me and i am not advocating it but you can see it attached. We here at PN are only limited by our imaginations but the trick is if someone will look at it and say "wow" or "i would love to have that on my wall' - not too many of us have learned that trick including myself. "To be or not to be" is not the question here it is "will they like it"? Link to comment
dbasinger 0 Posted April 8, 2010 Cool!! A modern twist to tradition. Originality can be risky but it is so much fun. I like it. Thank you. Link to comment
