Christal... Very nice minimalist winter shot. You know, to be honest my first reaction was negative to the framing, but given the subject it very much resembles a frosty pane of glass that's been wiped clean for a view outside. So I'll give it a thumbs up. Excellent detail in the trees... Mike

First of all: the shot is marvelous. Beautiful scene...if only there weren't an electrial light over the top of the sign on the building it would seem like a very remote location (of course I am being overly picky...the shot itself is marvelous).

Now for the frame: let me say that I typically do not like framing pictures. Most frames are beautiful, but also distract and take attention from the real subject. Otherwise they are done so poorly that my enjoyment of the photo is diminished. Not so here. I loved the creative framing and think it adds to the picture. I would maybe suggest a slightly less "bright" white (perhaps a very light shade of grey; a bit lighter than the snow on the ground) but it is truthfully fantastic the way it is. You have made me rethink my view of frames.

Thank you so much for this marvelous picture. I am very much a beginner; thank you for allowing your picture to instruct me.

Before reading Michael's comment I had the same impression that your framing treatment looks like a window that was wiped clean of frost. When multiple viewers make the same comment it affirms your creative choice and the communication is clear. Very nicely done!

That is alot of pure white snow! Well done my friend! I also like the frame work but bet it is as nice without it too.

I sent you an email....

Take care, Pamela

Funny -- I had the same thoughts as Mike had too. But by looking more closely at your photo, I want to congratulate you too on your choice of framing...it really does add to the overall composition of your photo, which is really excellent! I very much appreciate your pov, with mostly the rooftop visible, and the interesting dividing balance it created in your photo...

Compliments, Christal -- really well done!

Kind regards, Marjolein

Thanks to all of you who commented on this photo, but particular thanks to Mike and Jim for planting the idea in my head about looking out the window. When I did this treatment I hadn't thought of it that way. Thanks to your suggestions, I decided to call this 'Scene through the Window', and the judge in my photo club's monthly competition really liked the image and the clever title and awarded this 3rd place against some stiff competition. I was surprised, but happy. The way someone views an image often depends so much on the title.....common title as it was, you at least gave me the inspiration. Thank you both!

Indeed a Cool shot, Christal. You certainly succeed to convey the abundance of snow, and the feeling of being closed in while at the same time marveling at it! Wonderful paradox!

Another wonderful image! I hope this is the only way I see snow for awhile -- in your image.

I really liked the framing technique, and the best comments about its use have already been made. I like the texture of the snow in the foreground as well. NIce capture.

Christel ....

I didn't get to tell you at club the other night how much I like this image. Love the lines and the framing treatment is excellent. Becky

A simple and endearing composition, Christal. The lines in this image are beautiful, as is the texture of the snow that you've preserved in the foreground. Good stuff.

Altough I'm not too fond on this type of frames (find them a bit distracting) the image is absolutely beautiful. I like the background of trees and the clean foregroung. The composition is very tasteful as well.

Congratulations

A very interesting viewpoint and composition by not framing the whole building and a lovely contrast between the smoothness of the snow and the vertical textures of the trees in the background. Haven't quite made my mind up about the framing though.

Lovely composition Christal, I personally like your artistic border, maybe you should try without the blk line around your border.Regards, Dimitris.
