I can't imagine eking out an existence in such isolation, but the ghost of their efforts is beautifully bleak.

Hi Linda - Sorry I missed this one! Very compelling image - bleak except for the bit of blue sky. I like that you've included so much land and sly around the buildings. The sense of place is strong.

Balance of negative space is always very hard to do and to make sure the framing is correct to allow focus on the subject while not over powering with negative space and here is a perfect balance and well done... MJ

Something very primal about the scene. The vastness of land that surrounds us tiny human critters. Though pioneering was probably a tough life, this is a very soft scene, from lighting to textures to processing. The sky is very enveloping.

A very moving image. The barren landscape with the simple weathered structures with few windows seems so lonely, harsh, and empty . The sky and gently undulating hills implies a beauty which I hope offered some solace. 

Denise, thank you for your lovely, thoughtful comment. You have a beautiful way with words.  I suspect that the original home owners didn't have much time or inclination to do much more than work to survive the harshness of their surroundings and eke out a meager living. We, in our leisurely existence, are fortunate that we can take the time to contemplate the beauty and atmosphere. Best wishes.
