mr.scott 0 Posted March 5, 2010 Very nice picture! I like the way the sun light looks shining over the hills! The detail in the water, and on the wet sand is stunning!!!! Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted May 6, 2010 This one's excellent! Those wet curves add so much and as you can see, the S curve exits just above the bottom corner (perfect). Crop it so the curve exits below the bottom corner and it changes the composition remarkably. The only critique her is that the fisherman's head merges with the shore and mountains. If you had a higher angle, you could achieve separation. I would put an upward curve adjustment layer locally on the distant mountains to brighten them some which would help separate him. Still, that's a minor thing. Really nice Michael! Link to comment
mtmixon 0 Posted May 12, 2010 Thanks for the suggestions, Mark, on this one and the other photo. What I've found is that I tend to frame instinctively, without paying attention to the kinds of specifics that you describe. But then looking at the photo after the fact, it is obvious what could be done to improve it. I suppose that is just the natural evolution of a photographer. :-) Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted May 13, 2010 Michael, I think we all compose instinctively somewhat. I also think that many of our composition choices are also driven by habit, so we do not think about the process. Good habit and clever instinct make a great combination. In this image, you instinctively composed so the wet/dry line in the sand exited above the LL corner, which is IMO the best choice. My suggestion to crop the image was just for comparison sake. The image is perfectly composed as is, at least from my viewpoint. The line exiting below the LL corner would be OK, just not as good. I think you have very good instinct. Meanwhile, learn from successes as well as mistakes to ingrain good habit. Habit and instinct are close cousins! Link to comment
