Lovely composition, but it is terribly oversaturated. The distant hills never keep that much color. I would use P/S to lower the amount of color saturation.

Glad you enjoyed the shot. This was taken through the Mesa Arch which is a ten minute walk from the parking lot. It does seem like it would be a long hike to get to, but easy compared to Delicate Arch.

Morey I apologize in advance for editting your photo, but what do you think of this version? The foreground looked a bit dark to me so I added a contrast mask. This takes about 20 seconds. On my own photos, I usually create one as the first step for any scan that has a lot of contrast, just to see what it looks like.

wow, the view is breathtaking. sometimes, its all about being at the right place, at the right time. its very dynamic and exciting for a landscape photo; its got a few compositions that could actually stand by themselves (eg. the snow-covered mountains, or the cliffside in the foreground). cant really think of anything u could improve upon. its great!

Slide,

is the contrast mask in PS? if so, how do i use it? nvr seen it there before.

Hey Slide, instead of apologizing in advance for editing Mr. Kitzman's photo, why not ASK IN ADVANCE for his permission to do so?

I really don't like this ever-increasing practice of editing someone's work without their permission, then posting it on Photo.net. Even if it's o.k. with the original photographer, and even if he likes the end result, it's still presumptious and rude.

Morey & Al, to add a contrast mask in photoshop, duplicate the background, desaturate it, invert it, make it an overlay, then apply a gaussian blur b/n 10 and 50 pixels or so. I picked that tip up on photo.net a couple months ago.

Morey, all your photos are great, I'm heading out to Arches and Canyonlands in a couple weeks, hope I can get some shots that compare to yours.

Ahh... the over-photographed Washer Woman. I think the foreground is too dark, but the composition works for me. This shot would be much better in different lighting.

the foreground is way too dark for me. without detail or color in the bottom half of the frame, the composition is weak. your other work in this folder and in this genre is better.

Hi Morey.first of all...thankyou for permission to paint your beautiful view of Washerwoman Arch. It will be atleast a year before anything is complete. It takes 6 months just for the paint to cure !! I have been blown away by your fabulous work and will continue to look at.. and enjoy.. your large selection of enthralling images. I have marked you as a "Very Interesting Person !! I have read your profile with equal interest. Thanks again.

I would consider the foreground to be too dark for me, different lighting would make a lot of difference there. I do love the upper part of the picture which show a beautiful set of mountains.... looks great and the composition has a clear feeling of depth to it. I really like that in a landscape picture, so... very nicely done!
