Chapeau to you, Ton!

And it is the hat on this lady here that seems rather crucial for the photo, I believe. Of course, the setting of the women in the snow, with the nice perspective, is very well done in your photo as well.

But it was the hat (any regular hat would have changed the mood imo) that grabbed initially my first interest, looking at your photo this morning.

Right away I felt some connotation with possibly some Post-Impressionist paintings, although I couldn't quite figure out which ones...

Because of the slightly burlesque impression the hat on the lady gave me too, I thought initially of T. Lautrec as well.

( but he didn't paint any snow scenes to my knowledge)

My husband, to whom I showed your photo to, suggested possibly Jean Beraud or even Georg Breitner ( = The Hague school)...

In any event & coming back to your photo, it really is a great photo & taken (unmistakably) by someone with an excellent eye :-) Congratulations! --

PS: Heel hartelijk dank Ton, voor al jouw (zeer!) constructief commentaar op mijn photo's!

Apart from the obvious quality which I expect, what strikes me is the light. Looking beyond the chapeau, the street positively glows, simply beautiful.

a beauty of a photograph, the tone so right, so finely balanced and applied. This is a picture framed so expertly that the right of frame invites the eye to step in and retrace the steps leading out toward the light at the end curve. Brilliantly done

As with Marjolein I also get a connect with classic painting but can’t quite be specific, can’t identify from whom or where, but it’s definitely a feeling of a specific mood that is so present here, that harks back to the old world elegance with which artists represented the world, both in canvas and photography. But this is a class act that belongs to you, that is yours!

Ton,

You are not going to tell us that you have spent hours just waiting at that spot for this moment, do you?

I could spend as much, though, if only... we had some snow here ;)

I also loved the eye contact on top of everything mentioned before.

Her expression is fantastic, fully capturing my own opinion of winter and snow. Her surroundings are also wonderfully captured with the long set of tire tracks leading back into oblivion, disappearing amidst the buildings. The gray of the buildings seems delicately handled with wonderful detail, seeming incredibly natural.

Groetjes,

Trudy

thanks to all of you. This was a day that quite heavy snow fell so I went out. Despite the rather high chill factor some people went out as well. When I came here I said to my wife all that is needed now is someone to walk through that street and at that moment this lady stepped out of her front door and walked towards me. How's that for luck? (to answer your question Bulent I wouldn't have waited otherwise)

I'm not sure to which classic painting this would connect but I appreciate the comment. And yes Trudy, it's about spring arrived ;-)

Nice image. The only little comment - the person behing the lady in black is a bit distracting, cheers Jana

Out all of them, this jumbnail really did hit my face..! That creamy background, that coal tared lady..! Breitner..!!! This painter, one of the first, also was photographing, yes street life..!  It did inspire him for his paintings as well. You did shot your own classic here Tom..! The wish, the moment, really great..! Goed gedaan jochie..! :) Hartelijke groet, Olaf.
