A sad statement to mankind, but hopefully he will soon be gone and the animals can have the planet back, they will surely do a better job looking after it.

Excellent!

What a beautiful image you have created. Your captive King seems to have a slight sneer of disdain here as well as a sadness in his eyes. Disdain for what? Perhaps the folly of mankind?

10/10

I have been on Photosafari many times in Africa and have photographed all manner of animals including lions. I am not certain if a lion, or any animal, for that matter, can look "sad" or "proud" or "happy"...I suspect that this is always a case of anthropomorphization of the animal. Maybe WE feel sorry when we see what we have done to animals.

But now to the image itself: I suggest that it is one of the all time best images of a lion I have ever seen. Not just because it is so utterly sharp, not just because of the light gleaming in its eyes, but all of it together makes this a wonderful piece of art.

Please post more of your images.

I return to this noble photograph of the sad king of the jungle to bring you an unhappy message. I saw you commented on David Orea's photograph "Lamentation" so aptly named because on February 15 David suffered a fatal heart attack. From you comment, I saw you did not you know.

Karolos,

You have a great photo here with excellent detail. I am not sure if he is sad, but I do believe that many animals have emotions and you can read it on there faces if you know that particular animal. I can look at my dogs face and see if he is bored, content, curious, or happy, etc. Another thing I like about this photo is that I would not have known that he was in a zoo, except that you told us. I like the close cropping around his face.

The sharpness of this amazing image at 330mm and 1/15s suggests that it was shot on a tripod. I don't see how you could have done this hand held at this slow shutter speed even though the lens is VR unless your hands are absolutely rock steady. Could you verify this just out of curiosity? Thanks very much for posting this terrific shot.

Karolos,

Stunning. I love your story & agree, this beautiful animal should be free. The eyes tell it all, just like with people. Thanks for sharing. 7/7 Take care, Patsy
