Industrial Shadow

andrew_vonbank

I saw these shadows on a large fuel tank near the MSP airport during a legislative tour and just loved the subtle hues and abstract form. My attempt to be creative at work.

Catwalk stairs attached to the side of a large fuel tank make for some interesting shadow

abstractions. I'd like to know what you think. Peace.

Well seen! I agree about cropping those two elements off the top, and I would also crop off the right to give you a square format. I wouldn't do any touch-up - keep it authentic.

this is superb. you caught a great composition. the cylinder of the tank created an even greater image by bending the shadow. its brilliant, nice work.

I took a nearly identical photo (the shadow is very nearly the same shape), but won't post it because it is a copy of a photo I really wanted to buy, but couldn't afford. I had mine printed much darker. The printer kept asking "darker??".

Mine was on Cape Cod Massachusetts.

A great shot. The composition and light make this shot really standout. I especially like the diverging lines and the softening shadows. Good eye!

Very clever composition and framing Andrew, a very 'well seen' shot which many people would have missed or got the framing wrong.

Best wishes Steve

What a great potograph. Even after KNOWING what it is, the image continues to move as your eye tries to reason with the lines of the steps and the railing!! I would not eliminate any of the tank lines - KEEP IT REAL... they add to the context, and allow you to finally put the whole thing together. As for the top elements - try it and see what works - it might - it might not look better. I would probably not take much off the right - just a small sliver 5%, maybe a bit more. The transition from light to dark as the step shadows fade into the bend works, and if you take too much of the right side off, it may not be as soothing (?).

Great picture!
