Guest Guest Posted January 5, 2010 Soft window light usually makes the best light for still lifes. Here though it looks a little harsh to me and the window frame shadows are distracting. The lemon and peach are also on the same plane, which makes the image look static and flat. In my opinion, I also think the crop goes way to close to the bottom of both of them. This image would have looked better had you photographed it from a slightly higher level, moved the peach out in front of the canteloupe, placed it unsymmetrically placed with the lemon and left more foreground. By removing the two fruits in front from the same plane, you create a curve that starts with the canteloupe and ends with the peach or even the avocados, which improves the composition considerably. One of the avocados could have been moved further to the right as well. I am sure you have seen photos of a cornucopia with fruits and vegetables spilling out of it in a curve. This is the same concept, it creates motion. My jury is still out whether I would have included the top of the cantoloupe or not. There is always one juror who has to screw things up for the other 11! Link to comment
