wespettus 0 Posted February 6, 2003 I know this had to be a hit or miss shot. You got a wonderful composition here. I wish the eye of the bird were a tad sharper and there were more of the leg showing. The color and exposure are right on though. Keep up the good work. Link to comment
iason_faennos 0 Posted February 6, 2003 Amazing capture! (Not being a professional, i'd like to know how it was taken.) Link to comment
rick vincent 1 Posted February 6, 2003 Now that's close. If not for the blurred wind feathers, I would think that this is a dead "stuffed" bird that you held up in the air. Link to comment
sambal 0 Posted February 7, 2003 Wes, Jason, Rick, thank you very much for your critiques, comments and questions. The story behind this photo could be considered a bit trivial. Along the lakeshore where I took it lots of people stroll when the weather is fine. Yesterday also present were the ubiquitous kind ladies with brown paper bags full of old bread to feed the ducks. However, feeding the ducks attracts gulls in great numbers. They fly around, land quickly, snatch away the ducks their bread, and: they curiously hovered over me, probably to detect if I too was going to deliver bread. No bread in my hands, only a camera. So the gulls saw me shooting wildly into the not so usual blue sky of this winter afternoon, occasionally catching a gull hanging in the air or flying past. Thats it. Out of about 20 shots, two were good. Today Ill upload that 2nd one. More luck than wisdom, and all the rest. All this is only a hair width removed from having your friends throw stuffed birds into the air :-) So far this explanation from an inhabitant of the human zoo watched by the gulls. Link to comment
iason_faennos 0 Posted February 8, 2003 I wonder what photos a gull would take in the human zoo. Link to comment

christine_kumar 0 Posted April 20, 2007 You have so many gorgeous photos on your site. The colors, the compositions, they are all so interesting. However, I have to confess I've fallen in love with this photo over all others. Regardless of how many birds are around, it's not easy getting shots like this. This photo is nicely centered, the background colors set this gull off perfectly and you have a bird as your main focus - what's not to like? He almost seems to be asking, do you have a chip for me? And I almost feel like tossing him one. Though perhaps it would stick to my LCD screen. :-) Love it. Thanks again for a wonderful photo album and taking the time to share your visions with others.
