Gail,

I love the warm feeling of this image, you can tell it comes from the heart. The texture & tones are beautiful. I pray things are better for your mother. I have been there, I feel your pain. Take care & Happy New Year !!! Patsy

Thank you so much for your generous comment Patsy....it was a challenge...and I know one day I shall come back to it and hopefully make it even better...I love ancient structures and this fortress was no exception. I took it with my Dad's Olympus that he lent to me on a Cruise...never used a DSLR before....to my surprise I got a few decent shots. Thank you for your good wishes for Mom....she remains about the same. With the Doctors back to work this week, hopefully she will get some help. My sincere best wishes for the New Year....Gail

Thank you so much for your kind words regarding this photo....it was tricky to do...but real basics....trying to get the shadows and layers of old colored stone and cement(?) in sync. Thank you also for your Christmas Wishes Tom.....that was a very kind gesture that is truly appreciated, as is your support throughout the year. Most sincerely, Gail

This is a nice image, Gail! I like the composition, colours and nice tones, also very interesting and pleasant pp work. Very well done indeed. I just (perhaps and imho) would like to add some more space for the bench on the right...and then it will be perfect to my eye:-). Best regards and a happy New Year!

Thanks very much for your very kind and comments and excellent advice. I think I can add a tad bit more space on the right for the bench...the photo is not much larger on the right.

Unfortunately when I took this shot I was on a cruise with my parents...Dad lent me his Olympus DSLR...(I'd never used one before)....was very intimidated by all the buttons.....finally Dad just set it to AUTO and said "just take pictures!"...so off I went and I'm amazed I even got the shots I did as far as composition etc....did not really know what I was doing....I knew enough that many shots could have used different shutter and aperture settings but had no idea how to "work" the camera.

I knew enough to try to use the RULE OF THIRDS but to fit the entire entranceway in I was cuttint it close. But I will go back to original and see what I can do as your advice makes complete sense. many tnks for your advice and time.

WOW - I love textures, particularly in stone. What a warm and mysterious place. I wonder what is hidden behind the door. The arch invokes a feeling of protection and seclusion - a place to meditate.

The right hand crop is a little tight, but not enough to take away from this superb picture.

Here is a crude example of my attempt at capturing something of this mission in Sonoma. I used 2 filters: dry brush and craquelure. I have no idea what I am doing, just experimenting.

You did pretty good Linda...I must get over and visit your page...this shot is truly the main image and just dealing with the shadows and light......there was so much texture in the old rock of the fortress....keep up your good work and perseverence....you are doing well......sincerely, Gail

Looking at this wonderful image I was wondering if it was St. Agustin Florida, or San Juan Puerto Rico. The answer was in your last entry. I never visit Puerto Rico and you show me an slice of it in your image. Warm regard my friend.
