The sharpness is very good. In my opinion, there are too many distracting shadows. Especially across the bird's eye--the centerpiece (and title) of the picture.

David has a very good point, the density between highlights and shadows is somewhat distracting. Often backlight, shade or overcast is the best lighting conditions for a subject like this, as it does not create distracting shadows. I opened the shadows up a good bit and lightened the eye considerably. I think this version is closer to what you actually were intending.
